| Subject: How to Win the Hearts and Minds of the People ( church) Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:41 pm | |
| Rehoboam the son King Solomon became king after his father death. In a wise move he sought counsel for how to win the people ( how to grow the church)
True to scripture which advises that there is safety in more counsel, he sought for advise severally:
Proverbs 15:22 22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
WHAT ADVICE WAS REHOBOAM GIVEN?
1) 1 Kings 12:7 AMP - advice by elders And they said to him, If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them and answer them with good words, they will be your servants forever.
2) 1 Kings 12:11 AMP. - advise by his friends And now whereas my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
Rehoboam Forsook the counsel of the old men for the advice of the youth. Rather than be a servant to the people, he became a task master.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHURCH, THEREAFTER?
1 Kings 12:16 AMP So when all Israel saw that the king did not heed them, they answered the king, What portion have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David! So Israel went to their tents.
The congregation abandoned the church. The church leadership had failed to understand servanthood - humility, gentle speaking, love, compassion, selflessness, patience etc
This is an important lesson for us in LCI Southend. If we want a Mega Church, we need to change our mindset now. Let's start rehearsing it now with ourselves and perfect it with the sheep the Lord gives us.
You are called unto great works. Arise.
