Burning Passion

“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6 NIV)



Passion is something that drives whatever we do. If you are passionate about something then you tend to do better at it; or work harder for it. If you are passionate about someone, then you are willing to defy adversity and the condemnation of other people to be with them. It’s the typical romantic story seen in movies where two lovers battle against the odds, for the right to be together. When it comes to being passionate, The Apostle Paul was a very passionate man – where did his passion lie? Paul was passionate about Jesus Christ and His church; he would do everything and anything to help spread the message of good news.



He describes the passion that we have for God as a “flame” which we should continue to fan. A relationship builds by continuous interactions which help to develop each person’s understanding. We can only build our relationship with God by continually coming to meet Him. Whether that means finding a quiet place to sit in your house and pray, or if it means waking up a little bit earlier so you have more time to read The Word. It requires commitment; remember the love of God is a gift from Him. In that way we need to take care of that gift and distribute it wisely amongst our brothers and sisters. If you start to fan the flame of passion for Gods work, then you will see it increase in you and the people around you. Don’t allow the fire of the Holy Spirit to die within you; continue to feed it with prayer, Biblical reading and acting in faith. This combination is sure to keep your desire for God burning throughout the cold winters of life.
