| Subject: WALK IN THE SPIRIT Fri Jan 13, 2012 5:23 pm | |
| The book of Galatians 5 declares that the flesh and the Spirit are contrary one to the other. It points out that we are free but recommends that our freedom be not unto the manifestation of the flesh, but of the Spirit. In other words, Galatians 5 says "we should walk or live by, and in the Spirit"
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WALK IN THE SPIRIT?
It means to live a life that shows forth the fruits of the Spirit. If you are filled with the Spirit, then indeed the fruits of the Spirit will have no recourse but to be evident in your life. Apostle Paul itemises the fruits to include:
Galatians 5:22-23 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance (self control): against such there is no law.
All these fruits are only genuine if they flow from love. Love is the main thing and in verses 6, 13 and 14 of Galatians 5, the apostle Paul emphasises that our christianity is pointless unless it is under pinned by a faith that works by love and which motivates us to serve one another out of love. We are to see ourselves not as higher, more preferred or favoured than anybody else but to love ourselves equally.
TO WALK IN THE SPIRIT THEREFORE MEANS TO WALK IN LOVE
"Love your neighbour as yourself" is not to be repeated vainly as a christian slogan, but to be lived through supporting and protecting one another (verse 15). It is demonstrated through not seeking to win popularity contests, and to making a name for ourselves. These are driven by envying. (verse 26)
In the concluding verses of the chapter, we were charged:
Galatians 5:24-25 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Brethren, contrary to thinking, it is easy to tell if you are spiritual or not. Let us be worthy Christian examples to one another.
Challenge yourself and others by being a person who truly walks in the Spirit.
We can tell you know! | |
